Common Treatment Approaches

What is the best way to treat seborrheic dermatitis?

Seems like an easy question to answer.. But this is far from the truth. To this day, science has no clear answer.

Nonetheless, there is a wide variety of well documented treatments available. The issue is finding the right one And this can be quite a daunting task.

The difficulty comes from several areas:

  • Large amount proposed treatments can make choosing one difficult and confusing.
  • What works for one individual may not always for the next.
  • A treatment that provides complete clearance can suddenly loose effectiveness and stop altogether.

This makes recommending one single treatment practically impossible.

Additionally, the cause of seborrheic dermatitis remains unclear and complex. As a result, most treatment approaches target at least one of the currently understood factors.

The majority of treatments aim to do at-least one of the following:

  • Control the malassezia fungus
  • Reduce skin inflammation
  • Stabilize the immune response
  • Restore regular rate of cell division

The treatments which can do several of these at once, usually have the best success rates.

However, there doesn’t appear to be a single treatment that can actually cure seborrheic dermatitis. Instead, most treatments need to be carried out on an ongoing basis, even after initial clearance.

Nonetheless, having enough knowledge about each treatment may help you choose the best one for you.

The goal of this chapter, is to provide an in-depth analysis of the most popular treatments currently available.
