Improve Lipid Metabolism

Research indicates that a component of seborrheic dermatitis progression may be related to the body’s ability to metabolize lipids. Thus, any attempts to improve the metabolism of lipids is likely to improve symptoms and potentially help reverse the condition.

Factors Which Have Been Shown to Improve Lipid Metabolism

First, let’s review some of the more proven methods for improving lipid metabolism. This includes specific items such as:

  • Returning to traditional diet and lifestyle [1]
  • Eating foods high in carotenoids, dietary fiber, and polyphenols [2, 3, 4]
  • Reducing chronic stress and/or learning adequate coping strategies [5]
  • Improving dietary ratio of omega 3s to omega 6s [6]
  • Obtaining adequate amounts of physical activity [7]

The biggest takeaway is that eating more whole foods, learning to live in the moment, and staying active can really go a long way in ensuring proper metabolism of lipids. On the flip side, if we eat a ton of processed fats and carbohydrates, sit all day and live in constant fear our bodies are likely to have a hard time keeping up.

One thing to note is that the list above is by no means complete. There are most likely a significant amount of other factors that may be help improve lipid metabolism. The ones mentioned here are simply some of the more common ones discussed in medical literate.

Numerous other methods can be found online. This includes various supplements, exercise techniques, and eating approaches. These methods are not discussed here as they often lack scientific evidence and are not well documented.

Factors Which Inhibit Adequate Lipid Metabolism

It is also important to understand some of the most prominent factors which negatively impact proper lipid metabolism. This includes items such as:

  • High alcohol (ethanol) consumption [8]
  • Insufficiency of micro-nutrients such as zinc, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, and vitamin C [9]
  • Hormonal instability [10]

Though it’s helpful to known these factors, controlling some of them can be quite difficult without proper diagnosis (especially specific nutritional deficiencies and hormonal imbalances). As a result, focus should mainly be made on the things that are within our control rather then worrying about every little nuance.

Section Summary

This section presented several things you can do to improve the metabolism of lipids. Key action items include:
